Hashimoto's: The Untamed Thyroid
Over the last 15 years or so I’ve been seeing a lot more of this diagnosis in my office. With Hashimoto’s Disease the lab results indicate a thyroid sway from hyper-, overactive thyroid, to hypo- under-active function. It would seem to be an unusual animation for a gland but today it is common. Why would a tissue behave in such an inconsistent manner?
The conventional understanding of a thyroid condition such as Hashimoto’s, is related to autoimmune activity. Autoimmune refers to the body attacking its own tissue or cells. In the case of autoimmune thyroid, there is an internal battle between the immune system and the thyroid. Why would the body attack it’s own tissue? Does this make sense to you? Me either.
